28 HOURS IN NYC TO FIND A PLACE TO LIVE -AVOIDING OHIO.
I have 28 HOURS to find a place to live in NYC before the dreadful trip back to Ohio. First of all may I say I am a Fashion Designer, Model, Writer and full-time freelance artist. I recently came to NY for Fashion Week. I decided to stay and try and make myself a home permanently in New York City. I have 28 hours until my agreement is up with the model I am staying with. That means 28 hours to try and find a place to stay, whether it be for a night.. a day.. or a week.. and if I’m lucky the whole month.
Here’s the thing, as expensive it is to live in NYC it is easy for me to find work in my fields of interests. Ohio is a industrialized state with minimal artistic endevourous careers and it was frightfull waking up at 5:30 AM to be at Rubbermaid Factory by 6 AM on the 6-2:20 packaging shift. With no hesitation though I have made a plan. Tonight I’m going to Astoria, talk of the town is it’s a perfect little community to live in. I’m going there tonight to scope it out. Honestly, I am the type of girl glued to Manhattan and not willing to leave it. So this train ride across the river tonight is like a daring adventure into hell.. and plan on staying, because the wheat lands of Ohio are light years away from NY City.
Oh, I forgot to mention something.. I have zero budget and zero savings. *snickers* So, this should be a challenging 28 hours none the less.
I feel confident and I’m trying hardly to keep my cool. So, ok I am a little desperate but this is my way of proving to myself you can make anything happen and still stay classy. Alright, so I applied for that advertisement on craigslist.com that says “$1.00/month to live here if you bake me 50 cookies everyday” and I actually sent the advertiser a short poem on cookies, my favorite cookie recipe and a picture of freshly baked Macadamia Nut Cookies… and read the five paragraphs about cookie baking rules. *laugh I guess you could say it was my “moment in desperation”. Hey, wouldn’t you send a picture of your freshly baked cookies? I mean to live in NYC ffor $1/month rent, right? Ok, so I’m not seriously ever considering living there.
So, I’ve mastered a way to stay in the game, and that is laughter and free will. I’m going to freely go to Astoria tonight.. and I might even laugh my way back to Ohio if need be may. Hopefully, I won’t need to and I’ll be a proud owner of a NYC residence by that time.
Hour 1- Scoping out Astoria.
